  • Where can I learn more about the MBCP Teacher Training?
The best place to start is to watch the Info Session recording above. Here we give an overview of the curriculum, application process, tuition details, and a Q&A session with faculty and MBCP teachers who have participated in the training.
  • What are the pre-requisites for training to teach MBCP?
MBCP Teacher Training (MBCPTT) is an advanced course of instruction. Our pre-requisites are outlined in our Suggested Background document. While there may be some flexibility, enrollment priority is given to those applicants who have completed the pre-requisites and who have demonstrated a readiness to complete the MBCPTT program.
  • What is the application process and timeline?
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the training is full. Admission decisions will be made within 30 days of submission. Once accepted, a nonrefundable deposit is due to secure your seat. Applications close on 14 days before training commences (or once the training is full).
  • What if I’m not able to complete one of the prerequisites because of life circumstances (i.e. I have small children who I can’t leave for a 10 day silent retreat)?
We understand that those who wish to begin training live complex and full lives. If there are circumstances in your life that prohibit you from completing one of the prerequisites, please include a note in your application explaining your circumstances.
  • I have a long-time meditation practice but have not taken an MBSR class, or I have taken a different mindfulness course.  Can I waive the prerequisite for MBSR?
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a prerequisite for all who train to teach because MBCP was founded on the rich evidence base of MBSR. Experience in an MBSR course will begin to ground you in this particular way of learning and teaching. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is another 8-week course that shares this foundation of evidence, and is an alternative option for this prerequisite.
  • What technology skills do I need to participate in the online MBCPTT?
The MBCPTT uses an live-online video conferencing program, streaming video recordings, and an online classroom space for our training. We have had both novice and expert technology users complete our program successfully. We provide a technology orientation for all of our participants and have technical support available.
  • How many people are admitted into the MBCPTT each year?
There are 40 seats reserved for the MBCPTT each year.
  • What is the time commitment for the MBCPTT?
    Level Foundation = 60 hours (5 hours/week) Level 1 = 60 hours (5 hours/week) Level 2 = 55 hours (5.5 hours/week)
  • What happens after the training? How are teachers supported?
From the moment you begin your training you are joining a global community of 200+ MBCP Teachers. Throughout your training and beyond you can ask questions and learn from this community through an online teacher community platform. Additionally, after the MBCPTT you will be encouraged to join group mentoring which supports you through teaching your first MBCP class. Finally, the Mindful Birthing and Parenting Foundation hosts quarterly professional development workshops for MBCP teachers. If you are interested in certifying as an MBCP teacher there is a process for certification which you will learn more about during your training.
  • I speak proficient English, but it is not my first language. How does the faculty support students whose first language is not English?
As a global training program, it is usual that about half of the students' first language is not English. The faculty take great care to create a learning environment where everyone feels supported. You can view the teacher training info session video (above) to hear from previous students who share their experience in the training (skip to minute 46:46 for the answer to this question).
  • Are there any MBCP Teacher Trainings for non-English speakers?
While the Mindful Birthing and Parenting Foundation only sponsors MBCPTT for English speakers at present, some of our affiliate organizations are offering programs in other languages. Currently, MBCP Training is being offered in German, French, Dutch, and Chinese.
  • Are there any in-person MBCP Teacher Trainings for English speakers?
In-person MBCP Teacher Trainings are currently in development. Click here for updates.
  • Do you offer payment plans for MBCPTT tuition?
We offer interest-free (8-month) and low-interest (18-month or 24-month) payment plans for participants who wish to pay for their training in monthly installments. Find out more about financial aid here. If you would like to enroll in an extended payment plan, please submit an MBCPTT application form and indicate that you would like more information on financial aid. You will then be sent an email with details of how to enroll in a payment plan.
  • Do you have scholarships available?
We have a limited number of full and partial scholarships available for each MBCPTT series. We recognize the disparities within the healthcare system, and we give priority to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ applicants, those who serve under-resourced populations, and/or those who show clear financial need. Read more about financial aid here. There is a minimum $450 co-pay for all scholarships (including full scholarships) to cover mentoring costs. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please submit an MBCPTT application form and indicate that you would like more information on financial aid. You will then be sent an email with details of how to apply.
  • What are the steps to becoming a Certified MBCP Teacher?
Seeking certification is a process that includes training, mentorship, teaching experience, on-going mindfulness practice, and evaluation by our faculty. MBCP Teacher Certification is in line with other Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Certifications worldwide, and you will learn more about the certification process during the MBCPTT. Check back for information regarding our pathway to certification.
